"The project has reduced the time to recover data from four hours to less than 30 minutes. "
Despite outsourcing support for its retail stores—spread across 20 cities—As the risk of potential data loss—and the pain of managing multiple removable media across 20 cities—rose, Gupta knew it was time the company's infrastructure achieved resilience. Gupta chose to do away with back up tapes and turned to a NAS platform for backup and recovery of transactional data. "This is a first-of-its-kind solution globally where store infrastructure uses a centrally managed solution to eliminate an age-old process. Today, transactional data at every store is available across the chain with minimal loss or downtime,"says Gupta. The low-cost project resulted in a tapeless backup environment, saving more than 100 man hours per day. Also, in case of data loss at cash tills, the mean time to recover has reduced from around four hours to less than 30 minutes.
