While some members of the company's sales force worked on spreadsheets, a majority—catering to the retail business—were on a custom developed CRM solution. Moreover, the new sales team created to address new market segments, also needed to adopt a CRM system. Dutta recognized the need to integrate these disparate CRM systems. The main objective was to try and standardize legacy or historically different processes, and come up with a common customer engagement platform catering to all. Charged with a creative potential and technical expertise, he designed an in-house CRM solution for all sales teams in the organization. This facilitated the automation of all sales related processes, consolidation of all disparate systems and manual processes into a common enterprise platform. This reduced hardware, development, and license costs and freed up manpower resources.
