As the IT leader of construction major Punj Lloyd, Lamba had an enormous task at hand: Enforcing budgetary control across the company'Each project, worth a hundreds of crores, has over 150 tasks with independent budgets. Between project teams that avoided defining project budgets in the company's ERP, and frequent cost over-runs, it was impossible for Punj Lloyd's management to estimate the profitability of a project. Lamba created a workflow-based solution to ensure that budgets defined in the company's ERP are enforced so that projects don't exceed their budgets. "The beauty of this highly complex solution is that it ensures that key stakeholders get alert mailers when spending reached 80 percent of a pre-defined budget,"says Lamba. Within six months of the project, 18 percent more project milestones were attained without over-shooting their budget, says Lamba. And more accurate project costs help pre-sales and estimation teams acquire similar projects.
