These complexities were compounded when Essar Steel, one of the only fully vertically-integrated steel companies globally, decided to increase its output by 40 percent within this year. With new products and their multiple variants added almost daily, Essar Steel needed a system that could seamlessly integrate, interpret, and translate customer requirements and manufacture products to specification. So Aradhye implemented the variant configuration (VC) tool from SAP, which did exactly that. With about 340 different products and 3,00,000 variants to each, the VC tool helped shrink opportunity-loss by reducing the sales order process from 21 to two days. It also trimmed the company's material master data from 90,000 to just about 90. The VC curtailed data entry errors, and also saved about 3,000 man-hours a year in supply chain management.
