" This project allows us to give employees access to social media, reducing attrition and empowering the sales team. "

The company has been growing continuously in terms of revenue, customers and employees (1,300 and counting). But this explosive growth also meant additional pressure on the company's bandwidth requirements. Extremely business critical applications like SAP, PLM, and business intelligence, among others, run over the WAN, and IT had to ensure that the company could scale up seamlessly without too much additional investment or turbulence. To that end, Fernandes' team introduced layer 3 switches which re-direct local e-mail traffic from the WAN to the LAN, optimized bandwidth usage through WAN accelerators, and de-linked Internet services from the global Internet provided over the WAN to a local service provider. The results are savings of Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000 a month, a reduction of WAN bandwidth by 30 percent, and lower latencies of various applications operating in a global distributed environment—all this despite an increased number of resources.
